2011 OGT Syrah

This year’s OGT Syrah blend (named for our son, Oliver Gunnar Tensley) is our tried-and-true favorite: 50% Colson Canyon Syrah, 25% Thompson Syrah, and 25% Tierra Alta Syrah. Each component brings something important to the equation. The Colson Canyon brings a rich, velvety mouthfeel and deep notes of chocolate, blackberries, black currants, and smoked meats while the Tierra Alta adds notes of spice, incense and flowers. The Thompson contributes earthiness, minerality and a nice backbone of tannic structure. The resulting wine is well-structured, fleshy and full-bodied with vibrant, up-front fruit and bright, slightly tangy acidity. The finish is long and lingering. This wine is drinking great now, especially with a few hours of decanting, but will age well over the next 7 to 12 years.
