2012 Lea Mormann Vineyard / Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay

This is only the third vintage of Chardonnay Jennifer has ever made. Since she was so pleased with the last vintages, she decided to follow the same winemaking program going forward. The goal with this Chardonnay was to make a wine that showed hints of the buttery notes new oak barrels bring, but not to overwhelm the wine with those flavors. It was essential to keep the beautiful fruit of the Mormann Vineyard, located in the prestigious Sta. Rita Hills appellation, front and center. The solution was to age the wine in neutral oak barrels (2 years old and older) rather than new ones. The resulting wine shows brightness, freshness and crisp minerality as well as a lush mouthfeel and long finish with a touch of vanilla and butter. Look for notes of white peaches, lemony citrus, pear, and nectarines. Enjoy this wine now or age it over the next five years.
