Description
2013 Syrah Noir
This is the first year that the Noir is not 100 percent Colson Canyon Syrah. Our own Tensley Estate Vineyard came on line in 2013, and it was so powerful, black and textured that Joey decided it had to be a part of the Noir. Joey followed the same winemaking protocol he always has with this wine. He began by picking the very best fermenters of 2013 Colson Canyon Syrah and 2013 Tensley Vineyard Syrah then aged those wines together in 100% new oak for 16 months. The blend is 85% Colson Canyon and 15% Tensley Vineyard. No other Tensley wine is made in this way. Our other wines see a maximum of 20 percent new oak and age for approximately 10 months.
2013 was a very hot, very dry vintage that gave us low yields and small clusters of deeply intense fruit that resulted in a deeply complex and deeply extracted 2013 Noir. This wine is brimming with mouthwatering black stone fruit and juicy raspberry complemented by black pepper, smoked meats and hints of vanilla on the nose. This wine always shows a solid tannic structure and promises to age well over the next fifteen years.
