2016 Colson Canyon Vineyard Syrah (94-96 Jeb Dunnuck; 94 Wine Spectator; 90-93 Vinous)
As many of our longtime members and supporters know, purchasing Colson Canyon Vineyard in 2016 was an absolute dream come true for us. Colson has been part of our line-up since 2000 and has garnered us accolades from Food and Wine, the Wine Spectator, and the Wine Advocate. Since taking over Colson as owners we have dedicated ourselves to meticulously farming this utterly unique location. We’ve thinned the canopy, dropped crop, carefully monitored watering and, as a result, have had the best crop set we’ve seen in the vineyard to date. Like previous Colson vintages, this Colson is a powerhouse. But it’s a powerhouse with finesse. It’s floral and, as Joey puts it, “pretty.” This Colson still delivers all the smoky meat qualities, dark fruits and chocolate of past vintages but with an elegance that lifts the experience. Drink this Colson now or age it over the next 12-15 years.
