Description
2011 Lea Mormann Vineyard Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills
Our block in this sandy, ideally located Sta. Rita Hills vineyard is planted entirely to the classic Burgundian Pommard clone. This clone is a favorite of Jennifer’s and of winemakers around the world. The 2011 growing season gave us a few bumps at the beginning including a frost in April. But while the frost did reduce yields, it did not damage the quality of the fruit that remained. In fact, the lower yields made for more intense fruit, and this Mormann Pinot shows great concentration and texture. It is full-bodied and full of mouthwatering notes of red berries and cherries with hints of earth and cola. The long finish shows a fine hint of grainy tannins. This wine is drinking well now but its beautiful balance and structure will help it age well over the next seven or eight years.
