Description
2012 Thompson Vineyard Syrah
The Thompson Vineyard, established in 1990, has long been a favorite for Syrah. In fact, even if we wanted to make more of this wine (which we would love to do) we can’t because no one is giving up rows in Thompson if they are lucky enough to have them. Thomspon is hilly, Southern-facing and, because of windy conditions, naturally farms itself at an ideal 3 tons per acre or less. This year’s Thompson is concentrated, robust and dark crimson in color. It shows beautiful depth but also freshness. Look for notes of dark red fruits, leather and spice as well as a solid tannic structure and long, lingering finish. The Thompson is always a great choice for aging and this one should evolve nicely over the next 12 years.
