2022 Syrah Noir

Syrah Noir always comes from the two vineyards we own and farm ourselves by hand. The grapes are selected from the two most extracted and expressive sections. At Tensley Vineyard, we have a small section that sits at the top of the knoll and has more sand in the soil which gives better drainage and aromas. Colson Canyon always produces beautiful fruit, but at the bottom of rows 65-82 there is something in the soil that produces clusters about half of the size as the rest of the vineyard. These clusters have very small berries, with very little, extracted juice. Blending these two lots together makes an incredibly structured wine. It has so much structure, we add 60% new French oak to round it out. The result is this beautiful, balanced, and extremely complex wine. Notes of grilled steak, black pepper, blackberry, cassis, chocolate, coffee, herbs de provence. Approachable now but age worthy for 25+ years.
