2012 OGT Syrah
We all know the saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, and that has been our strategy with the tried and true OGT Syrah blend of 50% Colson Canyon Syrah, 25% Thompson Syrah, and 25% Tierra Alta Syrah. That said, the 2012 OGT just scored an impressive 95-97 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate! (Don’t worry, Oliver isn’t letting it go to his head). 2012 was a solid vintage that delivered fruit-driven wines with texture and depth as well as a fresh streak of acidity. This year’s OGT shows the rich notes of chocolate, smoked meats, plums, pepper, and black currants offered up by Colson Canyon as well as the floral elegance and red stone fruits brought in by the Tierra Alta Syrah. The Thompson lends structure and well-integrated, grainy tannins as well as appealing notes of earth and minerals. 2012 is an especially approachable vintage, and this wine is very appealing now but, as we like to say of our son, it is sure to gain complexity with time. Aging recommendation: 7 to 12 years.
